2018 UK Energy Storage Conference (UKES 2018)

The National Centre for Energy Systems Integration is hosting the 2018 UK Energy Storage Conference (UKES 2018), providing an inclusive platform for researchers in all aspects of Energy Storage to share their findings through oral and poster presentations. The conference endeavours to bring together researchers from academia, industry and policy makers across the whole field of energy storage, for dissemination and collaboration through presentations, expert talks and poster sessions, inspiring future research.

Energy Storage Systems have the potential to assist with the rapid decarbonisation of energy systems worldwide.  Although the benefits are proven from a strategic point of view, current adoption is lagging expectations due to cost, performance and regulatory barriers. A radical new, integrated approach is required to make step changes in cost and to achieve performance breakthroughs. An approach that is systems driven, from inception to validation, taking into account the constraints imposed by multiple applications and energy storage technologies.

We are pleased to announce that the call for abstracts for this conference is now open. We invite researchers of all career stages and backgrounds to submit half to one page abstracts through the online “Call for Abstracts” submission form by Thursday 30th November 2017.

Submissions will be reviewed by the Scientific Advisory Board and candidates will be notified of their acceptance shortly thereafter.

The conference will cover the following topics:

  1. Policy and Economics of Storage in Energy Systems.
  2. Storage for Future Mobility.
  3. Demonstration and Commercial Deployment.
  4. Gas Storage (including hydrogen).
  5. Electrochemical Energy Storage.
  6. Thermal, Mechanical and Thermochemical Energy Storage.
  7. Design, Planning and Integration of Storage in Energy Systems.
  8. Operation and Control: from Battery Management to Energy Management.
  9. Energy Storage in the Built Environment.

The conference will be held in the brand new Urban Sciences Building and a spectacular conference dinner will be held at the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art on Wednesday 21st March. Registration will open soon and will cost £250 for non-students and £150 for students.
